Opalsøen or the Opal Lake is in the northern tip of Bornholm as remains of the Granite age. Looking back on history, from the second half of the 19th century, Bornholm was the host of the huge granite industry. Granite became one of the most important export goods of Bornholm and from then on, it was a huge deal of granite industry on the island until the quarry got closed in 1970.
Opalsøen was the first granite quarry in the 19th century and now became a special nature and recreation area. Opal Lake has a beautiful lake surrounded by stiff cliffs which are so good for hiking trails, trekking, mountain climbing, and some other thrilling sports adventures like bungee jumping, zip lines, and more. At the top of the cliff, you will also see the picturesque view of the entire area including the Baltic Sea and Hammershus Castle ruins.
Opalsøen is also a place to swim with good clear water however, extra care is needed since the lake is very deep and only professional swimmers are just recommended to swim since there is no ground to stand with that could be reached while on the waters.
